In advance of the June 15th, 2012 release date, we’re now accepting pre-orders for the limited-edition pressing of 500 180-gram vinyl picture discs featuring a red, full moon. CDs featuring the red moon are available for pre-order as well.
Dark Summer is the debut release from John Bowers and brothers Ryan and Aaron Chapman. The album is a series of tracks with origins in the live performances of the trio working with, and possibly even against, analog synths and drum machines. The recordings have been re-edited, looped and worked into a set of ominous tracks that combine dubby loops, distorted beats and choir vocals (one common thread the album shares with Ryan and John’s other project, Nurses. The immediacy of the recordings and the occasional madness from the old analog gear makes for some compelling audio but this isn’t just a headphone sound experience – there’s plenty of catchy rhythm hooks to move you to put the disc back on the platter again and again. The vinyl release comes in an audiophile quality, 180-gram limited edition set of picture discs, featuring a full, red moon pressed in the vinyl.
To help introduce the band, Redefine Magazine held a call to artists to produce video pieces for a single from Dark Summer, Spirit Momentum. Several works were selected and are now available on their website here.
